Harvey-Berino Named Nutrition and Food Science Chair
Jean Harvey-Berino, assort professor of nutrition and matter science, has been ordained lead of the department, concluding a domestic search. Harvey-Berino had been acting lead since August when past chair, Robert Tyzbir, stepped back into his faculty function as professor of nutrition and matter sciences. "Dr. Harvey-Berino is an outstanding individual renowned for her work in behavioral weight-control therapy. Her research has been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1997. She has extensive undergo as an extension specialist and, therefore, a deep understanding and appreciation for the mission of UVM Extension," said wife Johnson, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Harvey-Berinos research and publishing aims to unravel behaviors and factors influencing weight change — matter preferences, cravings, stress, nutritional knowledge and exercise. She has worked on Type II diabetes hindrance and nutrition transformation for people experience in rural-agricultural areas. Most recently, she is measuring the value of computers in nutritional education and of the cyberspace in weight-loss programs. Harvey-Berino came to UVM in 1991 as an extension nutrition specialist after receiving her doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and her collegian and correct degrees from Pennsylvania State University. She will oversee a division of 25 faculty and staff inform and carry research and outreach in nutrition, obesity treatment, matter safety, matter power and matter entrepreneurship. The division offers degrees in dietetics and nutrition and matter science. Under Harvey-Berinos direction, the division plans to relation with birdlike power to offer a doctoral program and to attract a large pool of high-quality correct students. "I hope to encourage a full integrated matter power and nutrition division so students understand how matter gets on their plate and not meet what happens to it erst you chew and swallow," said Harvey-Berino.
